About the Texas Woodcarver

I begin studying classical woodcarving in 1997 under the tutelage of German master wood carver Ludwig Kiennger. I was fortunate to study with him until his retirement in 2006. In 2003, I took my first commissions under Ludwig's guidance and continue to provide fine woodcarvings to my clients.

One day back in 2005, I googled "Swiss wood carvers" and a out- of- print book entitled “Peter Mansbendel-A Swiss woodcarver in Texas” came up. It took me about a month to find the book, but once I had it, I wanted to learn more about Peter and see some of his work in person. I tracked down several properties here in Dallas (Thanks to Ebby Haliday) that showcased his work.

Soon I traveled to Austin (where the majority of his work rests) and saw many homes and businesses there. I even visited the historic Mansbendel home (which is like a carving museum) in Hyde Park and met his grandson and grand-daughter. His work so inspired me that I developed this website about his life and work..

The photos above are of my carvings that were inspired by Mansbendel. To see more www.texaswoodcarver.com
