Peter Mansbendel also excelled at drawing and was a excellent draftsman. He said that he had “God Given” ability to identify different classical styles from a young age. After his time in the Swiss army (age 17) and before he studied art in Paris, Peter traveled to England and stayed for over a year and drew the great works of Grinling Gibbons (considered by most as the greatest carver of all time). He used these drawings as a basis for many projects when he came to the US, to show his new clients the great classical styles from the past. He had the ability to conceive and compose extremely difficult patterns in his mind. He said he would “visualize the entire work before drawing, sculpting or carving”. Lots of his drawings and designs convey a sense of movement and power.
